Cockapoos were created by crossing two pure breeds, namely the American or English Cocker Spaniel with the Poodle. These charming dogs first appeared on the scene in the 1950's when it is thought that breeders in the States decided to create a low-shedding dog and their endeavours proved a big success with people all over the world. However, some people think they came about by pure accident. Today, the Cockapoo remains one of the most popular "designer dogs" around thanks to their charming looks and their kind, loyal and affectionate natures.
Here are some reasons cockapoos are a great cross- breed
1. They’re hypoallergenic
Like poodles, they don’t shed and they don’t trigger allergies.
So even if you’re allergic to dogs, you can still give a cockapoo a good cuddle.
2. They don’t smell
As dogs go, cockapoos are pretty odourless.
Unless they’ve rolled in something. Which they will do. Frequently.
3. They can be city dogs
Cockapoos vary in size depending on what size poodle they are bred from, but most aren’t any bigger than a cocker spaniel.
That means they don’t need loads of exercise, and so are quite happy living in a city.
4. But they LOVE exercise
Like all dogs, though, they love a run around or a swim, so if you can get them out into the countryside to stretch their legs you’ll have a very happy dog on your hands.
5. They have perfected the puppy-dog-eyes look
6. They’re very friendly
Like cocker spaniels, they’re naturally very inquisitive and friendly with both humans and other animals.
7. They’re an intelligent breed
They get their intelligence from poodles, making them very easy to train and good at obeying commands.
